Travel aficionados will be dazzled by the magnificent and fanciful stalagmites coupled with the crystal green lakes during a tour of the 300-square-metre Xuyen Son Ho (Trans-Mountain Lakes) in the central province of Quang Binh.

The six-hour tour is billed as a highlight of the Quang Binh Cave Festival 2015 programme given its peculiarity and mystery.

Phong Nha cave, part of the UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, was discovered in 1899 but it was not until 1990 that the British Royal Cave Association stumbled across Xuyen Son Ho.

During the journey to Xuyen Son Ho, which is located inside the stalactite Huyen Khong Cave, visitors participate in a 1,000-metre trek after kayaking 4,500 metres, passing Fairy Cave and Paradise Cave.

Established in 2001, the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is considered among the 238 most important ecological zones in the world.

The Vietnam Records Organisation listed four tourism sites in Quang Binh amongst the top 50 must-see travel destinations in Vietnam, including Phong Nha Cave, Ngang Pass, Nhat Le Beach and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

With the opening of Son Doong Cave in 2013, Quang Binh was instantly catapulted onto the bucket lists of travellers all over the world.

The New York Times named Quang Binh one of the most attractive destinations in Asia and ranked it eighth out of the world’s 52 must-see sites for 2014 while US magazine Business Insider included Son Doong Cave in its list of the 12 most impressive caves.-VNA
