- Japanese news website Yahoo Japan posted an article on April 27 praising Vietnam’s achievements in combatting the COVID-19.

It cited a survey by British international market research and data analytics firm YouGov as revealing that 93 percent of Vietnamese people say they are satisfied with their government’s preventive measures - the highest response in all the countries surveyed.

The article said that although Vietnam shares a long border with China, it has recorded no fatalities so far.

After the first COVID-19 death was recorded in Wuhan city, Vietnam promptly closed its border with China and limited flights from abroad.

In February, Vietnam set up the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control while publicising professional knowledge from the World Health Organisation (WHO) among a network of 700 hospitals nationwide.

The country then launched software and portals guiding people on how to prevent the spread of the disease.

The article also noted that Vietnam has laws punishing those who spread false information about the pandemic.

The Vietnamese Government and army have jointly carried out communications campaigns and the country also quickly began producing face masks to provide up to 12 million to the market each day.

It also donated medical supplies to Cambodia and Laos, according to the article.

During its ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020, Vietnam has promoted the organisation of the online Special ASEAN 3 Summit on COVID-19 response.

With these achievements, Vietnam has proven its prestige and leading role in the bloc, the article concluded./.
