Environment-themed drawings and statues by young Vietnamese painter Nguyen Dinh Hien were on show at Gallery One Three in Australia ’s Melbourne city from December 11-20, luring many visitors.

The exhibition was part of the Melbourne City Council’s programme to support international artists. Hien is the first Vietnamese artist ever to be chosen by the council and receives 10,000 USD in support.

He brought to Australia eight drawings and two composite statues, which depict human faces, animals and water-drops with a message of living harmoniously with nature and protecting the environment.

Speaking at the exhibition, Hien said that he is honoured to be the first Vietnamese to receive the council’s assistance, adding that he had prepared carefully to make visitors understand the profession of a Vietnamese artist.

The artist commenced this project in 2010 with 15 oil paintings under the sponsorship of the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. His collection was successfully showcased in Ho Chi Minh City and Melbourne that year and Singapore in 2011.

Born in 1976 in Hoi An ancient town, the central province of Quang Nam, Hien has had many works displayed at domestic and international exhibitions.-VNA
