Young ethnics successful in start-up

With their strong determination, many young ethnic minority people in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai have overcome difficulties to succeed in their business.

Born in 1986, Tẩn Thị Su is the founder of Sapa-O’Chau, the first business focusing on community tourism in the misty resort town of Sapa in northern Vietnam. From a street vendor, Su has now become director of the travel agency, which earns billions of dong a year and generates jobs for 40 local tour guides.

The company has set up a learning centre, providing English language and tour guide training for 40 children.

Tan Thi Su was the only ethnic woman listed on the Forbes Vietnam “30 under 30” 2016  featuring 30 faces working in different fields under the age of 30 in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Má A Nủ has become the head of a cooperative at his 20s. The cooperative’s products - oil extract, soap, herbal body bathing and candle wax – have been popular among both domestic and foreign visitors. The new establishment is providing stable jobs for 14 locals.

At the recent conference on start-up held in Lao Cai city,  the province has put forth measures and preferential incentives to create a healthy business environment that encourages enterprises, businesspeople and cooperatives to develop their operations and improve competitiveness.-VNA
