Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed the youth is a key part of society, the nation’s backbone, a vanguard force of the revolution and future owner of the country.

At the 10 th National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) in Hanoi on December 12, Trong urged the organisation to serve as a bridge between youngsters and the Party and nation, and boost the implementation of Party guidelines and State policies.

Trong asked the union to help the Party assemble and train youngsters as well as build a young generation with political will, intellect and creativity to inherit the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and nation.

Describing it as a reliable reserve force of the Party and the necessity of youth activities to the survival of the nation, he stressed that the Party, State and people pin their hope on the HCMCYU and Vietnam ’s younger generations. He added that they hope the union will improve its function and mission to train youngsters as vanguard soldiers that will uphold the flag of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh to the end.

Nguyen Dac Vinh, alternate member of the Party Central Committee and First Secretary of the HCMCYU Central Committee in its 9 th tenure, highlighted the union’s past achievements, which, according to him, are the driving force behind the development of youth movements.

The HCMCYU will continue to improve the quality of youth union activities, expand the solidarity front to gather youngsters and uphold the vanguard role of the entire Party, people and forces to successfully realise the country’s industrialisation and modernisation cause for a rich and strong nation and a democratic, equitable and civilised society to transform Vietnam into a modern-oriented industrialised country by 2020, he said.

Vinh further said the youth union will step up patriotic emulation campaigns to utilise the wisdom, strength, creative and vanguard spirit in the nation’s construction and defence, as well as cater for the legitimate needs and aspirations of young people.

Themed “Youth: aspirations for building the nation”, the event attracted 999 outstanding youth union members nationwide and saw the presence of President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam./.VNA
