ASEAN peacekeepers met in Cambodia’s capital city of Phnom Penh on October 7 for a two-day professional exchange.

Prak Sokhon, Head of Cambodia’s National Coordination Committee for UN Peacekeeping Operations, stated that the conference presents an opportunity for local officers to learn from their regional peers and expected it would enhance bloc security ties.

According to a report from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the nearly 5,000 peacekeepers from ASEAN state members account for 5 percent of the UN peacekeeping force.

Cambodia is ranked third in the region in the number of personnel joining the mission with 880 people active in parts of the world in conflict including Sudan, Chad, the Central African Republic, Mali, Lebanon and Syria.-VNA.
