Jakarta (VNA) – At least five people, including two suspected bombers and three officers, were killed in a double suicide bombing attack in Jakarta, Indonesia, on May 24.

Indonesian police said the attack took place near a Transjakarta bus station in Kampung Melayu in the eastern part of Jakarta capital city. The first blast went off at 8:58 pm (local time), and the second just two minutes later.

Special forces and bomb experts have been deployed to the scene, while nearby traffic has been blocked off for investigation.

Transjakarta transport company’s director Budi Kaliwono affirmed to support the investigation via the station’s cameras, and expressed his concern that the blasts would affect the number of passengers.

He also urged passengers to immediately report any suspicious activities to the police.

In an interview on the local Metro TV, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has called for calm and unity among the people and vowed to crack down on any forces that threaten security in the country.-VNA
