Phnom Penh (VNA) – A rally was held in Phnom Penh on December 2 to mark the 38th founding anniversary of the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation (KUFNS or Salvation Front), the predecessor of the Solidarity Front for Development of the Cambodian Motherland.

Speaking at the event, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin affirmed the Salvation Front not only saved Cambodia from the Pol Pot genocidal regime but also helped restore, construct and develop Cambodia on all aspects.

On December 2, 1978, the KUFNS was formed at Snoul district, Kratie province, in the context of turmoil and pain under the genocidal regime of the Khmer Rouge.

Under the leadership of Heng Samrin, Chia Sim, Hun Sen, the KUFNS united all strata of Cambodian society and with the help of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers created the victory on July 1, 1979, bringing peace, independence and prosperity to Cambodia.-VNA
