The Cambodian Senate on August 18 withdrew exemption rights with Senator Hong Sok Hour of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), who was arrested under the Phnom Penh Court’s decision.

The decision received 47/47 votes of senators of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) while CNRP senators boycotted the activity.

It will create favorable conditions for the local authorised agencies to continue taking legal proceedings against Hong Sok Hour.

On August 15, Cambodian police arrested Hong Sok Hour under Prime Minister Hun Sen’s order after he was accused of treason for posting on his Facebook page a document distorting the 36-year-old border agreement between Cambodia and Vietnam.

One day later, the Phnom Penh Court charged the senator with "falsifying public documents, using fake public documents, and causing unrest”. It also decided to take him into custody for trial.-VNA
