Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Phnom Penh court on September 9 sentenced acting President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha to five months in jail for ignoring the court’s summons under Article 538 of the Penal Code.

The court also fined him 800,000 riel.

Kem Sokha and his lawyer did not appear at the trial.

The CNRP leader is hiding at the party’s headquarter to avoid being arrested for refusing to appear in court under the court’s summons to answer questions on his alleged affair with a 25-year-old hairdresser.

The Phnom Penh court has issued many summonses but Kem Sokha ignored them all.

Under Article 538 of the Penal Code, those who ignore the court’s order could face one to six months in jail.-VNA
