Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia’s National Assembly began its plenary session of the fifth legislature on April 7 after a three-month recess.

Ninety-nine parliamentarians, including Prime Minister Hun Sen, attended the session.

In a royal letter sent to mark the opening of the session, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his hope that the National Assembly, which represents the Cambodian people, will continue to settle challenges to ensure a solid society with peace, political stability, security, order and sustainable development.

According to the agenda, the National Assembly will discuss a wide range of issues, including the amendment of a trade deal between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Republic of Korea.

The parliament will officially recognise Chea Vandeth as a lawmaker of Takeo province, replacing former Deputy Prime Minister and Cabinet Minister Sok An who died last month.

The Cambodian National Assembly consists of 123 lawmakers, including 68 from the ruling Cambodian People's Party (PPP) and 55 from the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP). - VNA
