Hanoi (VNA) – The threat of terrorism to Singapore stands at the highest level in recent years, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in its Singapore Terrorism Threat Assessment Report 2017 released on June 1.
The report noted that security agencies remain on high alert, although there is no credible intelligence of an imminent attack.
Singapore is a target of the Islamic State (IS) group for its role in international coalitions against terrorism, said the report.
In 2016, IS plotted to carry out two attacks against Singapore that were prevented by local authorities.
According to the report, so far two Singaporeans have left for Syria to join the conflict while about 14 Singaporean citizens have been radicalised by IS since 2015. -VNA
