Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on May 30 called for efforts of Malaysian people to join the fight against the self-claimed Islamic State (IS).
Zahid stressed that fighting against IS is not only the responsibility of the government, but also of the civilians, by providing information on IS for authorised agencies.
The appeal was made after head of the Malaysian police force's counter-terrorism division, Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, said four Malaysian people arrived in Mindanao of the Philippines to join insurgent groups.
Among them, one man named Mahmud Ahmad said he is ready to be the next leader of IS branch in southern Philippines if current leader Isnilon Hapilon was killed.-VNA
