
Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Security at all entry pointsnationwide, including rat trails, will be enhanced to ensure terrorists on therun from the authorities of the neighbouring countries do not infiltrate intoMalaysia, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Zahid, who is also Minister of Home Affairs, said on May 28that the country will ensure that security at entry points and territorialwaters is at the highest level with the engagement of the Marine Police,Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Royal Malaysian Navy and Eastern SabahSecurity Command.
The move was being taken following a series of recent terrorattacks in the Philippines, Indonesia and Bangkok recently, forcing thesecountries to step up counter-terrorism campaigns.
The Philippine military has launched airstrikes against theIslamic State (IS)-linked Maute group in Marawi city on the island of Mindanaoafter the group carried out a terror attack on May 23. Local security forcessaid the terrorists were backed by militants from Malaysia, Indonesia andSingapore.
Meanwhile, Indonesian police on May 26 arrested threesuspects in Transjakarta bus station bombings in Kampung Melayu ineastern Jakarta, leaving at least three police officers dead and 12 othersinjured.
Security measures have also been reinforced in Thailandfollowing a bomb blast at an army hospital in Bangkok on May 22 that killed andinjured 25 people.-VNA
