The "artisan" of breeding fighting fish in Vietnam talks about his unique profession

With over 20 years of experience in breeding fighting fish, Mr. Tran Ngoc Thang specializes in raising various types of betta fish, such as Fancy, Koi, Halfmoon, Samurai, which exhibit a diverse range of colors and prices.

Within a 200m2 farm located in Ngoc Ha, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, thousands of glass and plastic bottles are scattered.

This farm belongs to Mr. Tran Ngoc Thang, a 55-year-old fighting fish breeder.

These containers serve as the "homes" for colorful fighting (betta) fish, as their aggressive nature requires them to live in solitary.

With over 20 years of experience in breeding fighting fish, Mr. Tran Ngoc Thang specializes in raising various types of betta fish, such as Fancy, Koi, Halfmoon, Samurai, which exhibit a diverse range of colors and prices.

While fighting fish used to be favored for their combative nature and pitted against each other in thrilling duels to determine the victor, they are now predominantly kept as ornamental fish.

However, at Mr. Thang's fish farm, they are still housed individually to prevent conflicts.

As the fish start to grow, each one is carefully placed in separate bottles and jars.

Utilizing discarded bottles and jars not only reduces farming expenses but also proves highly convenient during the care process./.
