Thua Thien-Hue welcomes over 770,000 tourists in first two months

The central province of Thua Thien – Hue welcomed over 770,000 tourists in January – February, including more than 382,000 foreigners, up 8.62 percent year-on-year, according to the provincial Tourism Department.

Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – The central province of Thua Thien – Hue welcomed over 770,000 tourists in January – February, including more than 382,000 foreigners, up 8.62 percent year-on-year, according to the provincial Tourism Department.

During the Lunar New Year holiday from January 31 – February 11, the total tourist arrivals in Hue hit 230,000, including over 70,800 foreigners, up 5 percent annually.

The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre held tours “Hue – One Destination, Five Heritages”, folk games, calligraphy and martial arts display, lion dances to attract visitors.

Chan May port welcomed luxury cruise liner Celebrity Constellation, carrying over 2,000 tourists from the US, Canada, the UK and France to the locality, who were the first cruise visitors to land in the province in 2019.

During the stay, they visited destinations in ancient Hue capital, Da Nang city and Hoi An ancient town.

Chan May has become one of the 46 seaports chosen by the Asia Cruise Association as a stopover for cruise liners in Southeast Asia.

The department worked with Apex Vietnam Travel JSC to hold two famtrips for Japanese travel agencies to survey local destinations from March 1-2 in the first stage and from March 19-20 in the second stage, including Hue Imperial Citadel, Khai Dinh temple, Thien Mu pagoda and tasting local cuisines.

The Japanese delegation also held a working session with leaders of the Hue High School for the Gifted to build study tours for Japanese high school students, enabling them to study and exchange with fellows in Hue.

In 2019, the province strives to welcome 4.5- 4.7 million tourists, up nearly 8 percent annually, 40-45 percent of them will be foreigners. Tourism revenue is expected to rise by nearly 10 percent to 4.7 – 4.9 trillion VND (204 – 213 million USD) while social revenue will reach 12-13 trillion VND.-VNA
