Vietnam-Japan lacquer art exchange in one special exhibition

Vietnamese lacquer art appears next to Japanese lacquer art in an exhibition namely "Eastern Stories" organized by researcher Trieu Khac Tien - a lecturer specializing in lacquer art, who is Vice Dean of the Faculty of Painting at Vietnam University of Fine Arts.

The exhibition is taking place at the Japan Cultural Exchange Center in Hanoi. It is open from March 25 to April 24.

"Eastern Stories" is a series of lacquer artworks by Trieu Khac Tien, who made those in his researching, learning, experimenting, and creating journey at the lacquer department of the University of Tokyo from 2014 to 2017.

Knowing the similarities and differences between Vietnamese and Japanese lacquer art techniques, artistic styles as well as material properties, Trinh Khac Tien wishes to Vietnamize various techniques of Japanese lacquer art with traditional paint materials. At the same time, he wants to create new directions in Vietnamese lacquer art and elevate it to a new height that meets international standard./.
