11th National Party Congress to open on Jan. 12

The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will open on Jan. 12 in Hanoi, discussing a number of important issues and electing the Central Committee for 11th tenure.

Theweek-long Congress will discuss, supplement and develop the Platform fornational construction in the transitional period to socialism based onthe domestic and international developments, Nguyen Bac Son, member ofthe Party Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Central Commissionon Information and Education, said at a press conference on theimportant event in Hanoi on Jan. 10.

The Congress will alsodeliberate the Political Report of the 10th Central Committeesubmitted to the 11th Congress, the 10-year socio-economic developmentstrategy for 2011-2020, and some supplements and amendments to theParty Statute as well as other important issues.

He stressed the11th Congress’s role and great historical significance, saying “thisis the first Congress of the second decade of the 21st century.”

Atthis Congress, the Party will review and sum up 80 years of foundation,combat, growth, leadership of the Vietnamese revolution, he added.

The Congress draws 1,377 delegates representing over 3.6 million Party members in nearly 54,000 Party cells.

Earlier,the organising board launches a media centre for the Congress at the MyDinh National Convention Centre with the participation of Vietnameseand foreign reporters, who cover the important event.

The opening and closing sessions and several sessions are planned to be televised live.

Morethan 700 reporters, including about 100 foreigners from news agenciesand media and press representatives of 12 political parties of countriesthat have close ties with the Communist Party of Vietnam, haveregistered to cover the 11 th National Party Congress./.
