A conference on the implementation of a project to assist people withdisabilities in the 2012-2020 period was held by the Department ofSocial Welfare (Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare) onDecember 13.
The 2,05 trillion VND project, approvedby the Prime Minister on August 5, aims to create favourable conditionsfor people with disabilities to participate equally in socio-economicactivities, contributing to community and society construction.
The project’s major activities include providing equipment to assistpeople with disabilities, improving their access to education,vocational training, information technology and communication, andcreating jobs.
According to the department, between2006 and 2010, activities to support people with disabilities were notefficient or stable. The rate of poverty and illiteracy among peoplewith disabilities was high, and access to transport was limited.-VNA
