A conference on the implementation of a project to assist people with disabilities in the 2012-2020 period was held by the Department of Social Welfare (Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare) on December 13.
The 2,05 trillion VND project, approved by the Prime Minister on August 5, aims to create favourable conditions for people with disabilities to participate equally in socio-economic activities, contributing to community and society construction.
The project’s major activities include providing equipment to assist people with disabilities, improving their access to education, vocational training, information technology and communication, and creating jobs.
According to the department, between 2006 and 2010, activities to support people with disabilities were not efficient or stable. The rate of poverty and illiteracy among people with disabilities was high, and access to transport was limited.-VNA
