Hanoi (VNA) – 2016 has been designated as the year for the development of youth union members, said Dang Ngoc Tung, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL).
At the seventh conference of the VGCL Standing Committee that concluded in Hanoi on December 30, Tung explained that after Vietnam joins the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and a number of free trade agreements, trade unions will have to face a spate of challenges, especially in developing their members, establishing trade unions at the grass-roots level and improving the performance of the units.
Apart from advantages, the country’s socio-economic situation is forecast to face a range of difficulties in 2016 which directly affect labourers’ employment, income and living standards, he said.
Trade unions will also encounter a string of difficulties and challenges as a result of globalisation and international integration, he added.
Given this, the official suggested all-level trade unions complete guidelines and policies relating to youth members and labourers, especially those regarding employment and trade union in the context of international integration.
Tung called for trade unions at all levels to fight wastefulness and encourage workers to participate in social insurance.
The conference adopted a number of reports on the operation of the confederation and voted additional members to the VGCL Standing Committee and the Presidium of the VGCL for the 2013-2018 tenure.-VNA
