Dien Bien (VNA) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale occurred at about 3pm on December 25 in the Vietnam-Laos border area, according to Nguyen Thai Son, head of the Dien Bien Phu Seismic Observation Station.
The quake lasted for about three seconds, he said, adding that its epicentre was measured at 21.508 degrees North latitude and 102.982 degrees East longitude in Muong Pon commune, Dien Bien district, the northern province of Dien Bien, with a depth of about 10 kilometres.
It was a small earthquake with short aftershock, hence causing no damage on households or infrastructure facilities, he noted.
This was the seventh earthquake hitting Dien Bien province so far this year, according to Son.
Earlier, Dien Bien Dong and Muong Cha districts and Muong La town were hit by four earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.9 to 3.9 on the Richter scale.-VNA
