From July 20, benefactors who would like to send messages of support to Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims can do so through a charitable programme launched by the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA).

The two-month programme, which is being carried out with the support of the National Humanitarian Information Gate, forms part of VAVA-initiated activities to commemorate the Day for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (August 10). Each message sent to 1409 will contribute 18,000 VND (0.8 USD) to the victims.

VAVA will also partner with the Communist Party of Vietnam ( CPV ) Online Newspaper to organise an online exchange themed “Justice for AO victims” on July 30.

A special ceremony will be broadcast live by Vietnam Television on August 10, which was the day 62 years ago the US began to spray dioxin-contained herbicides over Vietnam.

On the occasion, VAVA will release a book and a film tracking its decade-long journey with Vietnamese AO victims.

According to VAVA President, Senior Lieut. Gen Nguyen Nguyen Van Rinh, the activities aim to raise public awareness of the dioxin catastrophe while calling for more support from organisations and individuals both at home and abroad.
