ADB, UK-funded projects perform effectively

As many as 19 programmes and projects with a total investment of over 1 trillion VND being implemented in the northern province of Hoa Binh were reviewed at a working session between ADB representatives and the People’s Committee of northern Hoa Binh province on Aug. 24.

Of the investment, 850 billion VND came from the bank’s ODA capital and 220 billion VND as counterpart capital.

The ADB-funded programmes and projects mainly involved education development, health, transport, rural infrastructure and clean water.

At the session, the provincial People’s Committee asked the ADB to examine an injection of funds into projects on infrastructure development, and irrigation, with a total estimated cost of 45-50 million USD.

In another event, a mission from the oversea assistance programme of the UK ’s Department for International Development (DFID) made a working visit to the northern province of Yen Bai on Aug. 24.

The delegates visited the HIV/AIDS prevention and control centre to examine the implementation of the anti-HIV/AIDS project funded by DFID and the World Bank.

The project, with a total cost of over 915,000 USD, was carried out in 30 communes and wards of Yen Bai province with a view to educating and communicating ways to change behaviour, minimising new infections.

Joy Louise Hutcheon, who headed the mission, highly valued the efficiency in implementing DFID-funded projects, especially the HIV/AIDS prevention and control project./.
