Administrative simplification required in draft law on immigration

Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Sinh Hung asked the drafting board of the law on immigration, migration and residence of foreigners in Vietnam to take special notice of simplifying administrative procedures to ensure openness, transparency, convenience and compliance with international practices.

The NAChairman made the request at the 13th NA Standing Committee’s ongoing21 st session in Hanoi on September 10.

Healso stressed that the draft law needs to clearly and fully reflect theprinciple of national sovereignty and equality in internationalrelations, harmoniously combine the demands of economic development anddiplomatic expansion with ensuring national security, social order andsafety, as well as eliminate current flaws.

Duringthe working session, members of the Standing Committee asked thedrafting board to make stricter and more concrete regulations onbeneficiaries, conditions, processes, procedures and competence inpermitting foreigners to reside in Vietnam, as well as special cases inwhich the change of visa purposes is allowed.

Theyalso called upon the board to pay more attention to scientists andexperts who Vietnam needs to serve its national development.

The session also heard a number of opinions that asked the draftingboard to approach issues regarding the establishment of an ASEANCommunity by late 2015, build a draft law on Vietnamese citizens wholive abroad and hold two nationalities, consider the building ofregulations on visa exemption, and connect information sharing amongState managerial agencies in the field.

In theafternoon, participants discussed the draft law on amendments andsupplements to some articles of the Marriage and Family Law.-VNA

Foreign policy contributes to propelling Vietnam into new era

2024 saw Vietnam significantly expanding its diplomatic activities with numerous partners and at various important multilateral forums and mechanisms. The country’s key leaders conducted a total of 60 external activities, including paying 21 visits to foreign countries and attend major multilateral conferences, as well as hosting 25 delegations of foreign leaders to Vietnam.
