Vietnam failed to build on the 2-1 victory in the first-leg match and missed out the final match after losing 2-4 to the Malaysians in the second-leg game in the 2014 Southeast Asian Football Championship - AFF Suzuki Cup at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi on December 11.

The score was 5-4 on aggregate and Vietnam have yet to reach the final since its maiden victory in 2008.

Safiq Bin Rahim put Malaysia ahead from the penalty spot just four minutes into the game. Norshahrul Idlan Bin Talaha doubled the lead with an easy goal after 15 minutes.

Striker Le Cong Vinh pulled back one goal with a penalty in the 22th minute.

But an own goal from Dinh Tien Thanh in the 29th minute and a header from captain Muhammad Shukor Bin Adnan two minutes from the break made it 4-1 for Malaysia.

The second half saw Vietnam controlling the game as Malaysia sat deep to protect their lead.

The home side’s efforts were rewarded with the second goal from Vinh in the 79th minute but the two more goals never came.

Malaysia will play against Thailand in the first final match in Thailand on December 17 and the second-leg game in Malaysia on December 20.-VNA
