- German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his spouse arrived in Hanoi on January 23 morning, starting their two-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse.
They were welcomed at Noi Bai International Airport by Chairman of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh, among others. Read full story
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse, and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived back in Hanoi on January 23, concluding a tour of Europe from January 16 to 23 to attend the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and pay official visits to Hungary and Romania.
Engaging in more than 30 activities during his two-day stay in Davos, PM Chinh attended the WEF’s Country Strategic Dialogue on Vietnam and a dialogue on Vietnam’s global vision, while also delivering remarks at other events of the WEF Annual Meeting. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s attendance in the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and official visits to Hungary and Romania have reaped successes in multiple aspects, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son. Talking to the media, Son said that with over 30 activities in just two days in Davos, PM Chinh’s participation in the WEF Annual Meeting 2024 reached all the set targets at a high level and strongly popularise the image of Vietnam as a country with a new stature and prestige. - Despite their geographical distance, over the past years, Malta and Vietnam have identified similarities and common interests, helping them cooperate in many fields for the benefit of the two peoples, Malta Ambassador to Vietnam John Busuttil has told the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (January 14).
Busuttil said that the 50th anniversary is a truly remarkable milestone and an opportunity for the two countries to look back on the achievements of the past five decades to better outline a roadmap for their promising friendship for the coming decades. Read full story

- LOTUSat-1, Vietnam’s first ever indigenous weather satellite, is expected to be launched into orbit from December 2024 to February 2025, according to the Vietnam National Satellite Centre (VNSC) at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).
VNSC Deputy General Director Le Xuan Huy said the 570kg satellite is expected to be completed in May, with an image resolution of one metre. Read full story
- The People’s Committee of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong recently recognised the Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park in Lac Duong district as a tourism site.
As the core zone of the UNESCO-recognised Langbiang World Natural Reserve, the national park has organised an array of eco-tourism activities to serve both domestic and foreign visitors in recent years. Read full story
- The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on January 23 launched the first-ever study on women-owned small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam.
The report, named "Facilitating Entrepreneurship Growth by Lifting Barriers: A White Book on Women-owned Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Vietnam", was developed by the ADB in partnership with the MPI’s Agency for Enterprise Development. It is an integral part of the "Women Accelerating Vibrant Enterprises in Southeast Asia and the Pacific" (WAVES) programme, funded by the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi). - Director of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Trung Khanh put forth some measures to boost regional tourism cooperation while addressing the 59th Meeting of the ASEAN National Tourism Organisations in Vientiane, Laos, on January 23.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) needs to pay more attention to joint activities in three partner countries, namely China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, and take advantage of the strengths of partners and dialogues to promote ASEAN tourism, he said, elaborating that after COVID-19 pandemic tourists tend to travel shorter distances./.
