Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- President Vo Van Thuong and his visiting Philippine counterpart Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields, during their talks in Hanoi on January 30 morning.

At the talks, held following a state-level welcome ceremony for the Philippine leader, Thuong stressed the significance of his guest’s first-ever state visit to Vietnam in his capacity as President of the Philippines. Read full story

- The Vietnamese Government commits to accompanying and creating favourable conditions for Philippine enterprises to land successful, sustainable and long-term investment in Vietnam in accordance with the country’s regulations, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said on January 30.

Co-chairing the Meeting with Businesses with visiting Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., Chinh described the fruitful Vietnam – Philippines relations as an important foundation that creates motivation and confidence for enterprises from both sides to expand investment and business as well as promote trade and investment cooperation. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for drastic actions to ensure traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday and spring festivals, as heavy traffic is forecast.

-  Despite a challenging global economic landscape, Vietnam continues to stand resilient as one of the top 10 recipients of overseas remittances worldwide, with an estimated 14 billion USD last year, according to the World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief and the Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD).

Breaking records on its own, Ho Chi Minh City boasted a remarkable annual surge of 43.3% in remittances, reaching an impressive 9.46 billion USD – a figure that also marked a 10-year high. Read full story

- The garment and textile sector has set a target of 44 billion USD in export turnover this year, up 10% year-on-year.

According to the Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS), garment and textile exports last year reached 39.5 billion USD, down 10% year-on-year. Read full story

- Vietnam has recorded tangible changes in agro-forestry-fishery exports thanks to preferential tariffs in trade with member countries of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) after five years the trade pact took effect.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the country’s export of agro-forestry-aquatic products to CPTPP member nations has consistently increased in recent years, hitting 2.9 billion in 2022 from 2.2 billion in 2019. Read fulll story

- A community of young female entrepreneurs equipped with digital skills has begun to take shape following the freshly ended Empower Her Tech programme by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Against the backdrop, the training programme, co-organised by the UNDP and Alobase Technology and Services JSC, targeted boosting digital skills for female entrepreneurs and women aged 18-35 with non-tech startup ideas. Sixty learners, selected from 300 candidates registered, underwent 10 lessons, which taught them Wix – a no-code website building tool, generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and Canva – a design tool for non-professionals, among others. - In a stride towards aviation excellence, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has greenlit the official launch of the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) model at Tan Son Nhat international airport in Ho Chi Minh City, effective from February 1, as declared by the airport on January 30.

This announcement marks the culmination of an extensive three-year testing and collaborative efforts by Tan Son Nhat Airport and key stakeholders, positioning Tan Son Nhat as an A-CDM airport on the airport map both regionally and globally. Read full story

- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) opened the Spring Fair 2024 in Hanoi on January 30 as the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival is inching in.

On display at the more than 100 booths are agricultural staples favoured as typical product for the most important annual festival in Vietnam, which will come early next month, such as bamboo shoot, wood ear, sticky rice, Shan tuyet tea, and Vu Dai village fish stew. Read full story./.
