Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s eventsas reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested special development policies andmechanisms be issued for the southeast region, while chairing a conference todebut the Coordinating Council for the Southeast Region held in Ho Chi MinhCity on July 18.

In the immediate future, PM Chinh, who is also head of the council, said thefocus should be placed on three strategic breakthroughs linked to three growthdrivers of consumption, investment, and export. Efforts must be made to addresstransportation bottlenecks, protect the living and ecological environment, anddeal with housing issues for workers and low-income earners, and slums in urbanareas. - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on July 18 chaired the firstmeeting of the steering committee for the organisation of the celebration ofthe 80th anniversary of the first NA general election (January 6, 1946-2026).

On January 6, 1946, the first general election to elect NA deputiessuccessfully took place across the country, marking an important milestone inthe process of building a democratic institution and legally affirming theright to mastery of the Vietnamese people. Read full story

- India is seen as a potential market for Vietnam’s tourism, and the countrywill strengthen promotion activities to lure more holiday-makers from the SouthAsian market, according to Director of the Vietnam National Authority ofTourism (VNAT) Nguyen Trung Khanh.

Vietnam welcomed 5.6 million foreign tourists, including 141,000 Indianarrivals, in the first six months of 2013. India was the 10th largest tourismmarket in the period. The improved air links between Vietnam and India havemade it easier for travelers of the two nations. Read full story

- Despite macroeconomic challenges, Vietnam has emerged as an innovation hub,attracting many foreign investors, especially those from Sweden, said EliseoBarcas, CEO of Tetra Pak Vietnam.

Bloom, Vietnam’s first-ever global innovation centre for the food and beverage(F&B) industry, was launched in Binh Duong province in early July. Thestate-of-the-art innovation centre, designed by Tetra Pak in partnership withDenEast of Sweden, aims to revolutionise the country’s F&B industry throughits innovative and cost-efficient product creation model. - The northern province of Hoa Binh will roll out the red carpet for Thaiinvestors in the locality, said Secretary of the provincial Party CommitteeNguyen Phi Long at an investment, trade and tourism promotion conference heldin Bangkok on July 17.

Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh said that with many favourable conditions in terms ofgeography, climate, soil and cultural traditions, the Vietnamese province isgradually becoming an ideal destination for foreign investors and tourists. Read full story

- With more than 5,000 accommodation establishments receiving TravelSustainable badge of Booking.com, Vietnam is among the top five countries inAsia-Pacific region with the highest number of the providers of this kind ofservice recognised for their efforts to operate more sustainably.

According to Booking.com 2023 SustainableTravel Report which contains insights gathered from more than 33,000 travelersacross 35 countries and territories, 80% of the global travelers say thatsustainable travel has become more and more important to them. Read full story

- Travel companies have suggested opening more tourism representative officesabroad, with priority to China, Thailand, India, Europe and the US, in anattempt to boost the attraction of foreign tourists now that the bottleneck inthe field of visa has been removed.

At present, Vietnam has only three such offices in Japan, the Republic of Korea(RoK), and the UK. Read full story

- Xuan Thanh Cement Joint Stock Company exported 55,000 tonnes of its cement tothe US, and the shipment is scheduled to arrive in the foreign market by theend of August.

The products are well received in the US market thanks to the "green"and stable quality as they are manufactured in modern production lines andtechnology, ensuring environmental friendliness of FLSmidth of Denmark. Read full story

- Two Vietnamese movies will compete at the ASEAN International Film Festival(AIFFA) 2023. “Memento Mori” by Marcus Manh Cuong Vu and “Dem toi ruc ro” (Thebrilliant darkness) by Aaron Toronto have been selected to compete with 120others at the festival which will be opened in Kuching, Malaysia, on August 2. Deputy FM highlights parliamentary diplomacy gains from IPU-152, European trips

Regarding bilateral engagements in Italy and Türkiye, the deputy minister said the trips marked a meaningful step in implementing Vietnam’s foreign policy following the 14th National Party Congress, helping deepen relations with European and Middle Eastern partners while mobilising external resources for national development.

Vietnam, China elevate strategic connectivity in new phase of development

Top legislators of Vietnam, Türkiye meet on sidelines of IPU-152 in Istanbul

The top Vietnamese legislator expressed his admiration for Türkiye’s cultural identity and its friendly, hospitable people, while highly valuing the European country’s growing role and position at multilateral forums and in regional mediation efforts. Vietnam, China sign 32 cooperation documents

The documents include a cooperation plan between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the 2026–2030 period; a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Organisation Commission of the CPV Central Committee and its Chinese counterpart; and a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Parliamentary leaders hail development of Vietnam – Russia ties

The top legislator of Vietnam proposed that both sides deepen political and diplomatic connections, as well as parliamentary cooperation, through delegation exchanges, high-level meetings through various channels, and the successful organisation of a visit to Vietnam by the Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council and a trip to Russia by the NA Chairman to co-chair the 5th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in 2026.
