Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- National Assembly (NA) deputies spend the entire day of May 27 to discuss contentious contents of the draft amended social insurance law.

In the morning discussion, many deputies laid emphasis on ensuring the rights of labourers amidst the increase in evasion, late payment and of social insurance premium payment, late payment and debts. Read full story

- The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VDPO) under the Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Hanoi on May 27 to mark the 10th anniversary of its traditional day (May 27, 2014 - 2024) and receive the third-class Fatherland Protection Order.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang; Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien, who is also head of the inter-sectoral working group and head of the ministry’s steering committee for participation in UN peacekeeping operations; ambassadors of the countries cooperating with Vietnam in this regard; and representatives of international organisations. - More than 11.07 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) was funneled into Vietnam during January-May, up 2% against the same time last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s Foreign Investment Agency.

Of the total, 7.94 billion USD was poured into 1,227 new projects, a year-on-year increase of 50.8% and 27.5%, respectively. Meanwhile, 440 projects had their capital added with a total of over 2.08 billion USD, dropping 9.3% and 8.7% as compared to the same time last year. Read full story

- Turning Hanoi into a safe, bustling, attractive and unique destination with night-time economic trademark is a main content in the Politburo's Conclusion No. 80-KL/TU on the planning of Hanoi in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, and a project to adjust the Master Plan for Hanoi Capital to 2045, vision to 2065.

The conclusion underlines the need to develop typical night-time economic models of each area in the city, building the capital city’s night-time trademark, and affirming Hanoi’s competitiveness compared to other regional and international destinations. Read full story

- A ceremony was held in the northern province of Lang Son on May 27 to officially open three routes for freight transport and customs clearance at the international border gate pair of Huu Nghi (Vietnam) – Youyi Guan (China).

The new routes are expected to facilitate tourism and trade development, improve customs clearance capacity at the Huu Nghi – Youyi Guan border gate pair, and meet the growing trade needs between the two countries. Read full story

- GS25, a leading convenience store chain in the Republic of Korea operated by GS Retail, recently opened its 300th store in Vietnam, six years after breaking into the Southeast Asian country.

The 393-square-metre mega store in Ho Chi Minh City, called “GS25 Dien Bien Phu”, sells a variety of Korean food such as ramyeon (instant noodle) and Kkwabaegi (twisted doughnuts), and Vietnamese snacks. Read full story

- Athletes Pham Trung Hoa and Nguyen My Trang will represent Vietnam at the World Championship Latin Senior II, organised by World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) on June 1 and 2 in Bremen, Germany, according to the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation.

The pair will compete with nearly 100 rivals from countries all over the world, including Italy, Germany, France, UK, the US, Canada, Czech, Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong (China) in five categories, namely Samba, Chacha, Rumba, Pasodoble and Jive. Read full story./.

National Assembly Chairman arrives in Türkiye for attendance at IPU-152

The IPU-152 carries the theme “Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations”. NA Chairman Man is scheduled to deliver a keynote address outlining Vietnam’s perspectives on global and regional issues, while putting forward concrete solutions to foster inter-parliamentary cooperation, contributing to maintaining peace, stability while driving sustainable and prosperous development worldwide.

Vietnam, Italy agree on new cooperation directions

Both sides agreed to facilitate market access for key export products, and prioritise cooperation in investment attraction and technology transfer in emerging and strategic sectors such as new energy, renewable energy and automation, while continuing to strengthen existing cooperation in textiles, footwear, climate change response, electronics, culture and tourism.

Vietnam, China enhance public security ties

Amid complex developments in the global and regional situation, the two sides agreed on the need to enhance substantive political trust, fight transnational crime, and accelerate negotiations and the signing of new cooperation agreements in line with international law and legal frameworks of both countries.
