– A delegation gathering representatives of the Party Central Committee, State, National Assembly, Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee laid flowers at President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum to pay tribute to the late leader, and offered incense to martyrs at the Monument dedicated to Martyrs and Heroes in Hanoi on May 6 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-2024).
Prominent in the delegation were Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Politburo member, permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, and head of the committee's Organisation Commission Truong Thi Mai; former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc; and former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.Read full story
– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 6 received French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu, who is in Vietnam to attend celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
Appreciating the French minister’s acceptance of the invitation to attend a ceremony marking the anniversary, PM Chinh considered the visit as important to promoting the two countries’ strategic partnership.Read full story
– The Dien Bien Phu Victory serves as a foundation for Vietnam to achieve great accomplishments, helping expand the country’s diplomatic sector and improve its position, role, and influence in the regional and international arena, said Khamphanh Pheuyavong, Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Propaganda and Training.
In a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the triumph which shattered the colonial system of imperialism, the official, who is also Chairman of the LPRP Central Committee’s Theory Council, said the victory contributed to breaking the colonialist ambition of France, forcing it to sign the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina, and recognising independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. – Vietnamese athletes bagged three gold and two bronze medals at the Hong Kong Athletics Championship which took place from May 4-5 at the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground, Hong Kong (China).
Specifically, Nguyen Thi Oanh took one gold in the women's 3,000m steeplechase event in a time of 10 minutes and 15.84 seconds, a gap of nearly three minutes to the nearest rival Chan Wing Tung of the hosts, and another gold in the 5,000m event in a time of 16 minutes and 23.17 seconds.Read full story

– Airports nationwide served nearly 1.8 million passengers in the peak travelling period during the National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1) holidays, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
Specifically, from April 26 to May 1, airports under the management of the ACV served 11,039 flights, including 4,118 international ones, up 17.19% year on year. The flights carried nearly 1.8 million passengers, including more than 667,000 foreigners, a rise of 31.6% over the same period last year.Read full story/.
