Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted the need for unwavering determination and drastic actions in the face of current difficulties, during the Government’s monthly meeting in Hanoi on May 4.

The leader called for a steadfast pursuit of the goals set, urging relevant authorities to redouble their efforts. Specific tasks were outlined, including thorough preparation for the National Assembly’s upcoming seventh session, with a particular focus on finalising draft laws, resolutions, reports, and proposals. - Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son has suggested the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) coordinate with Vietnam to implement their cooperation focuses.

At a meeting with OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann on the sidelines of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting 2024 (MCM), which took place in Paris on May 2-3, Son called on the organisation to continue its support for the implementation of the 15 projects within the Vietnam-OECD action plan for 2022 – 2026. - The Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954) was a ground shaking victory, not just for the Vietnamese people who fought for independence, freedom and socialism, but also for liberation movements in Southeast Asia and the world at large, said Kyril Whittaker, a British researcher of Vietnamese politics and history.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in the UK, he said the Vietnamese revolution, including the Dien Bien Phu Victory, had a profound effect around the world, as it showed the strength of the people against colonialism and imperialism, and for peace and independence. - “I dreamed of peace while in the battle and when it came true, my dreams are all about my comrades every night,” Dien Bien Phu veteran Luong Van Huong, now 96, told the Vietnam News Agency, weeping tears falling on his face at the memory of his fellow fighters at the Dien Bien Phu Campaign 70 years ago.

Huong is among a few survivors from his shock squad in the historic 56-day battle that brought Vietnam the globe-shaking victory Dien Bien Phu, precipitating both the collapse of France's colonial rule in Indochina and Vietnam's emergence as an independent nation. Read full story

- Argentina’s Resumen Latinoamericano newspaper recently published a series of articles and photos praising Vietnam’s historic Dien Bien Phu Victory.

Highlighting lessons from the great victory in the fight against colonialism, the highly reputable newspaper among the left-wing forces of the Latin American and Spain said in just a few more days, the Vietnamese nation will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the event, a brilliant feat that broke through the stronghold of colonialism - imperialism. - Leading IT services provider FPT Software and automotive manufacturer VinFast of Vietnam were honoured at the 14th Annual “Jewels of Asia” Awards Gala hosted by the Asian American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) in Virginia state of the US on May 2.

The enterprises won the prize in the category of international businesses from Asia operating in the US, which was added to the awards for the first time. Read full story

- The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will collaborate with Alibaba to increase the number of prominent businesses selected to join the Vietnam E-Pavilion to 300, providing opportunities for enterprises to access millions of consumers worldwide through Alibaba.com's extensive customer network.
