Vientiane (VNA) – The Dien Bien Phu Victory serves as a foundation for Vietnam to achieve great accomplishments, helping expand the country’s diplomatic sector and improve its position, role, and influence in the regional and international arena, said Khamphanh Pheuyavong, Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Propaganda and Training.
In a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the triumph which shattered the colonial system of imperialism, the official, who is also Chairman of the LPRP Central Committee’s Theory Council, said the victory contributed to breaking the colonialist ambition of France, forcing it to sign the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina, and recognising independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. It also laid a foundation for Vietnam to reach comprehensive development, he added.
Thanks to the victory, political stability in Vietnam was maintained, and the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) enhanced, he said, adding that the state administrative system was robust, earning the trust and support of the people to the Party’s leadership.
Vietnam witnessed stable economic growth, enabling poverty reduction, and improving living standards for the people, not only helping the country escape underdevelopment but also improving its overall strength, he noted.
Seven decades after the victory that resonated across continents and shook the world, Vietnam has not only obtained unification, but also maintained its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, including seas, skies, islands, and the socialist regime, the Lao official said.
He stressed that the Dien Bien Phu Victory also brought valuable lessons for his country, helping advance the national liberation process and the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
The lessons served as guiding principles and practical experience that Lao revolutionaries have flexibly applied to the revolutionary cause in the country, he said.
On the occasion, the Lao official showed his deep gratitude and appreciation for the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap. He sent the best wishes to the Party and State leaders, and people of Vietnam for the victories and achievements achieved over the decades.
He expressed his hope that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, under the leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, will continue to achieve greater successes.
He wished the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between between Laos and Vietnam to be forever sustainable and increasingly bear fruit./.
