Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha held separate working sessions with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and EU Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra on the sidelines of the 2023 Global Gateway Forum in Belgium on October 26.

Meeting with Borrell, who is also Vice President of the European Commission (EC), Ha highlighted Vietnam's commitment to enhance and deepen the framework of its partnership and comprehensive cooperation with the EU. Read full story

- Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on October 26 suggested the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) give more policy recommendations to Vietnam, focusing on such areas as global minimum tax, carbon emission reduction, environmental protection, high technology, semiconductor manufacturing, digital transformation, and AI.

At a meeting in Hanoi with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, which took place on the sidelines of the OECD – Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum 2023, Son thanked the organisation and the official in particular for their support and close coordination, which has contributed to the success of the forum as well as the Vietnam Investment Forum – OECD 2023. - Vietnam commits strengthening cooperation with national, regional and global anti-doping organisations to develop a sport industry of honesty, fairness and cleanliness, and free of doping, Ambassador Le Thi Hong Van, head of the Vietnamese Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, said at the ninth session of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport that took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on October 25-26. - Over 15.29 billion USD was channelled into 2,608 new foreign direct investment (FDI) projects as of October 20, respectively up 54% and 66.1% year on year, statistics showed. Read full story
 
- In the face of difficulties and challenges, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has been proactively and flexibly governing the monetary policy, also coordinated with the fiscal policy and other macro-economic ones, to control inflation and help stabilise the macro-economy and boost growth, thus winning high evaluation from the international community. - A consultation workshop was held in Hanoi on October 27 to finalise a draft resource mobilisation plan to implement the Political Declaration on establishing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

The event, held by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and the International Partners Group (IPG), attracted representatives of embassies, the IPG, international financial institutions of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), international organisations in Vietnam, the country’s JETP Secretariat, and the working group assisting the national steering committee for implementing Vietnam’s commitments made at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26). - Agricultural product export is expected to continue to be a bright spot in  Vietnam's economic picture in 2023 thanks to domestic firms’ efforts to exploit international markets.

Nguyen Duc Hung, CEO of Global Food JSC, said from now to the end of this year, the firm expects to ship more than 100 tonnes of frozen farm produce each month, which triple the volume it sold in the same period last year. Read full story

- The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has helped accelerate the recovery of Vietnam’s exports to the EU, especially in the first two years since it came into effect in 2020, yet the impact is somewhat less positive in the third year, according to a report released by the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) on October 27.

The institute organised a workshop in Hanoi to announce the report reviewing the three-year implementation of the EVFTA within the framework of the Macroeconomic Reforms/Green Growth Programme in Vietnam funded by the German Agency for Sustainable Development (GIZ). Read full story

- The US Agency for International Development (USAID) will continue support for the Vietnamese Government to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) by 2030, with new cases cut by 90% and deaths reduced by 95%, USAID’s Mission Director for Vietnam Aler Grubbs said on October 27. Read full story

- Two cruise ships carrying foreign tourists to Ha Long city of the northern province of Quang Ninh arrived at Hon Gai international port on October 27 morning.

Specifically, 900 tourists from Europe and the US travelled to Ha Long on board German-flagged Viking Orion ship. They are scheduled to visit the UNESCO-recognised World Natural Heritage site of Ha Long Bay, Hanoi capital city, and Ninh Binh province before coming back to the ship and leaving the port on October 28 afternoon. - Vietnamese badminton players Nguyen Thuy Linh and Le Duc Phat made remarkable strides in the Badminton World Federation (BWF)’s world rankings thanks to their recent impressive performance.

According to the latest BWF rankings announced on October 26, Linh has a total of 45,550 points, rising four places to the 20th globally, the highest by the 1997-born player. Read full story

- Vietnamese men football team secured the 94th place in FIFA’s world latest rankings, 15th in Asia, and first in Southeast Asia.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam topped the ranking, followed by Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, and Timor Leste. Read full story./.
