Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.
- The vote of confidence on 44 officials holding the positions elected or approved by the 15th-tenure National Assembly (NA) was held seriously and in line with regulations, reflecting the increasing democracy of parliamentary activities.
The vote of confidence on October 25, part of the 15th NA’s ongoing sixth session, was the fourth to be organised so far. The previous ones were held at the fifth and eighth sessions of the 13th NA in June 2013 and November 2014, respectively, and the sixth session of the 14th NA in October 2018. Read full story
- Vietnam has set a great example of cooperation with the European Union (EU), President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen told Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha in Brussels on October 25.
At the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Global Gateway Forum organised by the EU, Leyen affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner in implementing cooperation strategies and initiatives in the region. Read full story
- Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai met visiting State Secretary of the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research Dominique Paravicini in Hanoi on October 26.
Paravicini is in Vietnam to attend the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum 2023 in Hanoi on October 26 and 27. Vietnam is hosting the forum in her capacity as Co-Chair of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) along with Australia. Read full story
- Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang and trade and investment representatives of Vietnam in the European country had a meeting with leaders of the French employers' association in Corsica region (MEDEF Corsica) in Ajaccio city and attended a seminar with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Corsica in Bastia city during their trip to the island from October 23-25.
During the working sessions, Ambassador Thang highlighted promising cooperation areas between Vietnam and Corsica, affirming that Vietnam always welcomes businesses from Corsica to seek trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam, especially in sustainable development areas, green economy and tourism. The Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and the Newhaven Town Council inaugurate the renovation of a bronze statue of President Ho Chi Minh at the Newhaven Museum on October 25, 2023. (Photo: VNA) The statue was a gift from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Management Board to the Newhaven Museum via the Embassy of Vietnam in the UK in 2013 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s arrival in the UK. The renovation of the statue was implemented by the embassy with the support from the Newhaven Museum and the Vietnamese community in the European nation. Read full story
- The Vietnam-Cambodia Defence Economic Production Exhibition 2023 (VIDEX 2023) opened at the Koh Pich Exhibition and Convention Centre Phnom Penh, Cambodia on October 25.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieu. Gen. Vu Hai San said that the exhibition is an important socio-economic and political activity between the two countries. Read full story
- A company in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh on October 25 exported the first lot of a drink made from fresh coconut nectar to the US.
The lot, including nearly 20,000 250-ml bottles, was also the first exported by the Tra Vinh FARM Co. Ltd. (Sokfarm) to the US through an official channel. Read full story
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) on October 25 held a kick-off ceremony marking the implementation of the Swiss-funded 5 million USD technical assistance, which aims to nurture financial technologies (fintech) serving the improvement of financial inclusion in Vietnam.
This funding, along with a 2 million USD contribution from the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR), financed by the Government of Japan, will support the expansion of inclusive and climate finance in the country. Read full story
- The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)’s centrality in maintaining peace and prosperity in the region was highlighted at the 15th East Sea International Conference that opened in Ho Chi Minh City on October 25.
The two-day conference, themed “Luminate the Grey, Light up the Green”, is held by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, bringing together nearly 50 speakers who are reputable experts from nearly 20 countries. Read full story
