Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The Party and State have affirmed that national and religious solidarity forms the main driving force for national development, and have advocated eliminating prejudice and discrimination based on racial, social and religious status.

In his article titled "Religious solidarity for national development", Chief of the Office of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyen Van Long said the Constitutions from 1946 to 2013 consistently demonstrate the Party and State's viewpoint on religious and belief affairs. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and lawmakers looked into issues related to investment, development, and climate change response in the Mekong Delta during a group discussion at the ongoing sixth session of the 15th National Assembly in Hanoi on October 24.

Chinh said the Mekong Delta is now facing several issues, including land subsidence, landslide, drought and saltwater intrusion. Therefore, the Government has decided to allocate 4 trillion VND (166.6 million USD) to address them. Read full story

- News agencies bear the responsibility of leading and orienting the public in the fight against disinformation, General Director of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Vu Viet Trang told the second discussion session of the 51st Meeting of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) Executive Board held in Istanbul on October 23.

Trang stressed that the emergence of fake news and its impact on all areas of life and its rapid spread in cyberspace require news agencies to play an effective role in providing accurate and fast information with widespread coverage. Read full story

- Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Minister of National Defence, and visiting Sen. Lieut. Gen. Roberto Legra Sotolongo, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces held talks in Hanoi on October 24.

At the talks, which took place after a welcoming ceremony for the Cuban official the same day, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Cuong said that Sen. Lieut. Gen. Roberto Legra Sotolongo’s visit continues to show the close attachment as well as the loyal and pure sentiments between the two countries in general and the two militaries in particular. Read full story

- Argentinian Ambassador to Vietnam Luis Pablo Maria Beltramino has expressed his hope that the bilateral relationship will further thrive in the time ahead, in a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

Fifty years ago, Argentina was one of the first countries in Latin America to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, following the signing of the Paris Agreement in 1973, the ambassador told the VNA on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (October 25, 1973). Read full story

- The European Union (EU) always affirms that Vietnam is an important partner in the region, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the European Union (EU) Nguyen Van Thao told Vietnam News Agency in a recent interview.

The interview took place ahead of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha’s trip to Brussels to attend the Global Gateway Forum from October 25-26 at the invitation of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Read full story

- Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Huy had a working session with Swiss State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation Martina Hirayama in Bern on October 23 to discuss bilateral cooperation in research and innovation.

At the event, the two sides informed each other of developments in science in their respective country as well as its priorities in sponsoring research and innovation activities. Read full story

- The Vietnamese and Cambodian governments on October 24 agreed to maintain their close coordination and increase efficiency of bilateral cooperation in the search for, gathering and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during the wartime.

The agreement was reached at the 22nd meeting of the Specialised Committees of the two Governments co-chaired by Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Vo Minh Luong, Chairman of the Vietnamese Government’s Specialised Committee, and Senior Minister Gen. Pol Saroeun, Chairman of the Cambodian Government’s Specialised Committee. Read full story
