- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh urged online retail giant Amazon to further expand its operations in Vietnam while receiving Vice President of International Public Policy & Government Affairs at Amazon Susan Pointer.

PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always considers the US one of its top important partners. In the joint statement on the upgrade of Vietnam-US ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership and at a meeting between the Vietnamese PM and US President Joe Biden in September 2023, the two sides defined cooperation in sci-tech, digital transformation and innovation as one of the new breakthroughs in the bilateral relationship. -  Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara on October 26 agreed to work to elevate their countries’ strategic partnership to a new height.

At their talks in the Hanoi, Son hailed the importance of his guest’s official visit to the extensive cooperation between the two countries as well as between the two foreign ministries amid the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership. Read full story

- The 15th international conference on the East Sea wrapped up in Ho Chi Minh City on October 26, with four discussion sessions and a keynote speech on the second sitting.

The sessions focused discussions on the role of coast guards in enhancing cooperation in the East Sea; decisive time: traditional energy or renewable energy?; essential infrastructure: new strategic significance of technology; and the voice of the next generation. Read full story

-  President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh hosted a reception in Ulaanbaatar on October 26 for Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam who have been on an official visit to the country.

Khurelsukh stressed that Vietnam has a special position in Mongolia’s foreign policy and wished that in the near future, bilateral ties would reach a new height for the benefit of the people of both countries and contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. - Vietnam recognised and highly evaluated the decision of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) to ease visa rules for Vietnamese citizens, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang has said.

At the ministry’s press conference on October 26, Hang said Vietnam and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region are important economic partners of each other, and the latter’s simplification of visa procedures will bring practical benefits to the two economies, and their people and enterprises. - The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) – Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum 2023 was organised under the theme of “Sustainable and Quality Investment: New Momentum for OECD- Southeast Asia Partnership” in Hanoi on October 26.

As the most important event of the OECD-run Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) in 2023, the forum drew the participation of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, OCED Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and more than 200 ministers, deputy ministers, ambassadors and representatives from 48 OECD member states and Southeast Asian countries, and many scholars, experts and business community. - Experts proposed solutions and technologies to reduce emissions in shrimp farming and processing at a workshop in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on October 26.

The event, jointly held by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, formed part of the “Accelerating private sector engagement in climate-resilient and low-emission investment opportunities in Vietnam’s nationally determined contribution (NDC)” project rolled out by the MARD and the UNDP in the south-central province of Binh Thuan and Bac Lieu since 2021. - Courses in Education and Clinical and Health of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU, Hanoi) find a place in the Times Higher Education (THE)’s World University Ranking by Subjects 2024, which was released on October 26.

- The Republic of Korea’s Kumho Asiana-Vietnam Scholarship and Cultural Foundation will present scholarships to 63 selected Vietnamese students from seven universities across the countries.

Accordingly, the scholarship, each worth from 20 million to 30 million VND (812 USD – 1.200 USD), will be awarded to first-year students who have high scores in the 2023 university admission exams and are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Read full story
