Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Party General Secretary and State President To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on September 4 for 150 civil servants, public employees and workers who have shown strong performance in the “Good advice, Good service” movement in the 2019-2024 period.

Launched by the Vietnam Public Sector Union (VPSU) in 2019, the movement aims to encourage officials, civil servant, public employeees and workers across the country to give proper, timely, creative and effective advice to the State, society, people, workers and businesses, and provide thoughtful, dedicated, responsible and effective services to people and businesses, thus serving the Party, Fatherland and nation. - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on September 4 paid tribute to late Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung and late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet on the occasion of his working visit to the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long.

At a memorial site dedicated to Hung in Long Phuoc commune of Long Ho district, Man and his entourage offered incense and flowers in commemoration and gratitude to the late Chairman of the Council of Ministers - a prestigious leader of the Party and State, and an outstanding son of the heroic homeland of Vinh Long. - Digital transformation is an inevitable trend that changes the way goods and services are consumed and supplied, especially activities on digital platforms, making tax management more complicated.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ho Duc Phoc said that Vietnam’s total e-commerce revenue reached 20.5 billion USD last year and will reach 30.5 billion USD by 2025. Read full story

- Vietnam exported 6.16 million tonnes of rice in the first eight months of this year, up 5.9% over the same period last year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has said.

Revenue from rice exports reached nearly 3.85 billion USD, a year-on-year growth of 21.7%. Read full story

- Cuc Phuong National Park in the northern province of Ninh Binh has been named Asia’s Leading National Park 2024 at the 31st World Travel Awards, according to the management board of the park.

- Luxury resorts, beaches with turquoise waters, and new iconic landmarks are transforming Phu Quoc - ranked as the world's second most beautiful island by readers of US magazine Travel+Leisure - into a must-visit destination for Indian travelers this year-end travel season.

According to data from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Vietnam welcomed over 392,000 Indian visitors in 2023, marking a 231% increase compared to 2019. However, in just the first six months of 2024, this group already reached 231,000, up 164% year-on-year. Read full story

- La Nina, with a greater possibility of occurring in the remaining months of this year, may cause the risk of heavy rains, storms and floods, especially in the central region, according to Head of the Weather Forecast Department under the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHF) Nguyen Van Huong.

Huong said that currently, ENSO phenomenon is in a neutral state, which is forecast to change to a La Nina state from September to November 2024 with a probability of 60-70%. After that, the ENSO phenomenon will remain in a La Nina state with a probability of about 65-75%, he added. Read full story

- The 21st ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM-21) took place in Vientiane, Laos, on September 3 with the attendance of representatives from 10 ASEAN countries as well as Timor-Lester as an observer.

At the meeting, delegates held that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is one of the regions of important strategy in terms of geopolitics, military and socio-economy. Currently, the regional and world situation continues to have old and new security threats and challenges, directly and indirectly affecting peace, stability and development of the region. Therefore, ASEAN needs to continue to cooperate to address those challenges./.Read full story
