Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The 500kV circuit-3 power transmission line linking Quang Trach in the central province of Quang Binh and Pho Noi in the northern province of Hung Yen was officially put into operation on August 29.

Attending the inauguration ceremony saw the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the main venue in Hung Yen, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at the venue in Thai Binh province, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long at the venue in Thanh Hoa province, and Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc from Ha Tinh province. - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man described President Ho Chi Minh’s testament as a beacon for the entire nation, while addressing a scientific conference held in Hanoi on August 29 to discuss 55 years of central agencies’ implementation of the testament (1969 - 2024).

The top legislator said that over the past 55 years, the ideology and testament of President Ho Chi Minh have always accompanied the country, guiding the entire Party, people, and army to stay steadfast in and loyal to the late leader’s revolutionary ideal and excellently inherit his great revolutionary career to which he devoted his entire life. - The Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) and its Singaporean partner Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd held in Singapore on August 28 a ceremony of the hand-over of contract packages on wind and hydrological measurements and geological surveys under the project on exporting offshore renewable energy from Vietnam to Singapore.

The packages aim to provide accurate data on the natural and technical conditions at the project site. The work includes collecting wind data, measuring hydrological parameters, conducting geological surveys of the seabed, assessing the potential for wind power exploitation and identifying advanced technologies for developing the offshore wind power system. - The Vietnamese Trade Office in Algeria and Tunisia chaired a conference to connect Vietnamese businesses and their peers in Algeria, Tunisia, and Lybia.

The event drew 40 businesses, associations, and chambers of commerce of the three North African countries and 40 Vietnamese firms in the fields of production, import and export of agricultural and food products, seafood, industrial products, and logistics. Read full story

- Eyeing great opportunities to make full use of artificial intelligence (AI) for promoting economic growth and deal with social issues, Vietnam is striving to develop and apply AI in a responsible manner.

With the goal of turning AI into an important technology field in Vietnam, in January 2021, the Prime Minister issued the National Strategy on Research, Development and Application of AI until 2030, with an aim of making Vietnam a centre for innovation and the development of AI solutions and applications in the ASEAN region by 2030. - Vietnam is among the top favourite destinations of Indian travellers who wish to return, according to a survey by the online travel platform Agoda.

The "Return Visitor Ranking" survey of Agoda found 67 % of the Indian travelers surveyed said they want to come back to their favourite destinations for their cuisine, ease of travel, and affordability. Read full story

- Vietnam and Venezuela hold huge potential to expand their trade and investment collaboration, experts said at an international forum held by the Vietnam Institute of Americas Studies (VIAS) under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences in Hanoi on August 29.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nguyen Cao Duc, Deputy Director in charge of the VIAS, stressed that although various achievements have been recorded in the bilateral cooperation, the economic and trade ties between the two countries still lag behind their potential and strengths. Read full story

- Bank credit in August is showing signs of recovery after a decline in July, according to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV).

As of August 16, credit had increased by 6.25% compared to the end of 2023, while by the end of July, credit increased by 5.66%, lower than the 6.1% rate recorded at the end of June. Read full story

- The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) has decided to adjust dates for the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on August 28.

Accordingly, the tournament’s group stage matches will start from December 8 instead of November 24, followed by double-legged semi-finals on December 26 -30. The finals will be played on January 2 and January 5,2025./. Read full story

Ho Chi Minh City, EU boast ample room for sustainable development cooperation

Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1990, Vietnam and the EU have deepened the bilateral ties into one of the bloc’s most dynamic and in-depth partnerships with an ASEAN member, Ha noted, adding that the relationship entered a new chapter in January when the President of European Council’s visit upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.

Cao Bang, China’s Baise city eye to boost all-around cooperation

Cao Bang province of Vietnam and Baise city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China are exploring a “red tourism” route linking Pac Bo and Meng Mo (China) to promote revolutionary tradition education and strengthen bilateral friendship. Ho Chi Minh City, Vientiane strengthen cooperation for 2026–2030

Under the MoU, the two sides will strengthen cooperation in politics – diplomacy, security – defence, legal and judicial affairs, economic affairs, education, culture and society, cooperation among mass organisations and socio-political organisations, and development support.
