Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 27 chaired a Government’s law-building session which focused on debating the draft Law on State Capital Management and Investment in Enterprises (revised), the draft Law on Teachers, and the draft Law on Digital Technology Industry.

Giving directions on building the bills, PM Chinh said that the bills must follow and institutionalise the Party and State’s policies and orientations in related matters, while clearly demonstrating policies approved by the Government in proposals of the bills. Read full story

- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man presided over the 6th meeting of full-time NA deputies in Hanoi on August 27.

In his opening remarks, the top legislator said at the meeting, NA deputies will give their opinions on 12 draft laws, including 11 those initially debated at the NA’s 7th session, including the Law on Geology and Minerals, the Law on amendments and supplements to a number of articles of the Law on Pharmacy, the Law on Trade Unions (revised), the revised Law on Human Trafficking Prevention and Control, the revised Notary Law, the Law on Cultural Heritage (revised), the Law on Urban and Rural Planning, the Law on Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue, the revised Law on Value Added Tax, the Law on Juvenile Justice, and the Law on People's Air Defence. - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on August 27 held online talks with his Lao counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith.

The two officials rejoiced at the robust development of the bilateral relations across various domains over the past time, with political ties having upheld its key role in the bilateral relationship, and defence-security cooperation having been consolidated to ensure political stability, defence-security and social order in each nation. - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc and US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins co-chaired the 13th Vietnam-US Political, Security, and Defence Dialogue in Hanoi on August 26.

This was the first dialogue of its kind after the two countries upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023. Read full story

- Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet and Australian Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade Michelle Chan co-chaired the 9th Vietnam-Australia diplomacy-defence dialogue in Hanoi on August 26.

At the annual event since 2012, the two sides agreed that the Vietnam-Australia relationship is growing strongly and comprehensively with substantial outcomes, demonstrated by the upgrade of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Australia in March 2024. - China’s allowance of Vietnam's frozen durian, fresh coconut and crocodile exports is expected to brighten up the outlook of exports to the country.

Earlier this month, the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and China’s General Administration of Customs signed three protocols regarding the export of these products to China. Read full story

- A trade and investment promotion conference between Ho Chi Minh City and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was held in Vietnam’s southern largest economic hub on August 27.

In his opening remarks, Liu Ning, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said that Vietnam has remained Guangxi’s largest trading partner over the past 25 years, with two-way trade in the first half of this year up 35.6% year-on-year. - The Vietnamese traditional dress "Ao Dai" left a strong impression at the recent ASEAN Textile Exhibition held in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The event, organised by ASEAN embassies in Brunei and Timor Leste in collaboration with the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and the ASEAN Youth Network Brunei, saw the participation of Crown Prince of Brunei. Read full story./.

Top leader calls for overhaul of Presidential Office's operations and governance

The top leader said that amid the current context, the requirements for the advisory, coordination and support work are becoming increasingly high, requiring the assisting apparatus to operate in a unified, seamless, timely and efficient manner. He stressed the need to clearly distinguish between Party affairs and State affairs to avoid overlaps in roles, responsibilities, authority and procedures.
