Hanoi (VNA) - Agencies, organisations and localities which worked well in preparing for the summit between Chairman of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump in Hanoi and the reception for the two leaders last month were commended at a conference in Hanoi on March 13.

They include the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Public Security, Defence, Information and Communications; the Government office; the People Committees of Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Lang Son, and Quang Ninh; and the National Convention Centre.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent complement letters to the Vietnam News Agency, Radio The Voice of Vietnam and the Vietnam Television for their efforts in popularising these important diplomatic events.

Speaking at the event, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong said information related to the summit, the second of its kind, and the visits by DPRK and US leaders to Vietnam was richly reflected in a variety of ways, meeting the requirement at home and abroad for information.

He appreciated the spirit and working attitude of domestic news agencies, saying that the event offered a good chance for them to collect valuable lessons and learn from experience of foreign news agencies.

In his speech at the conference, Prime Minister Phuc praised outstanding efforts of leaders and staff of the above-mentioned ministries, sectors and localities, affirming that great endeavour of relevant agencies, organisations, localities and individuals brought about the success of the organization work for the summit and the reception for the leaders.

The success helps Vietnam improve its position, he said, adding that it also affirmed the country’s huge contributions to the common work of the region and the world.

This was a good preparation for Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure, and helped strengthen confidence of overseas Vietnamese abroad in the leadership of the Party and State, the PM stressed.

He also highly valued a number of units for their initiatives in organising the related events, especially the Vietnam News Agency for arranging the “Vietnam-DPRK relations” photo exhibition.

He asked sectors and localities to fully tap opportunities brought by the events to boost socio-economic development, promote the image of Vietnam’s nation and people and tourism potential, and attract investment.-VNA
