Buenos Aires (VNA) – Vietnam and Argentina have enjoyed thriving relations since they established diplomatic ties in 1973 and especially after they elevated the ties to a comprehensive partnership in 2010.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Dang Xuan Dung made the statement during a talk with students from the Argentina University of Enterprises (UADE) on March 21.

Stressing the robust bilateral trade which stood at more than 3 billion USD in 2016, Dung said Vietnam is the second most important economic partner of Argentina in Asia and the South American nation is Vietnam’s second largest trade partner in the continent.

Despite numerous challenges, Vietnam is one of the leading economies in Southeast Asia, with GDP growth of 6.8 percent, inflation at 3.16 percent and trade value hitting a record 400 billion USD in 2017, he noted.

Regarding the country’s foreign policy, Dung said that Vietnam pursues a policy of multilateralisation, diversification in external relations and intensive international integration.

Vietnam has set up diplomatic ties with more than 180 countries worldwide, of which it has strategic relations with 16 countries and comprehensive partnerships with 10 others.

Responding to UADE students’ questions on Vietnam’s relations with foreign nations, Dung stressed that Vietnam has been a responsible member of the international community and always wants to be faithful friends of foreign nations.-VNA
