Those students, who are from poor families in Tinh Bien and Tri Ton districts, have had outstanding academic performance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Former Vice President Truong My Hoa, who isPresident of the fund, said the granting of scholarship aims toencourage ethnic children from disadvantaged background to keep up theirgood work.
An Giang province is home to around 80,000 Khmerethnic people who account for 4.2 percent of its population. Schools inthe province teach subjects in both Vietnamese and Khmer languages.
Established in 1999, “Vu A Dinh” Scholarship Fund has so far givenover 50,000 scholarships to students from poor ethnic communities andhelped build schools, bridges and houses for the poor.
It hasbeen raising money for the construction of schools in islands as well asimplementing a number of specialised education projects.-VNA
