An Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of AnGiang is striving to become one of the top 15 localities in the ProvincialCompetitiveness Index (PCI) rankings this year.
In 2018, An Giang ranked 28th among the 63provinces and centrally run cities with 63.65 points, up four places from theprevious year. It was in sixth place among the 13 Mekong Delta localities.
Five PCI sub-indexes of the province improvedlast year, namely policy bias, land access, business support services, informalcharges, and time costs. Meanwhile, the five others dropped, namely entrycosts, transparency and access to information, proactivity of provincialleadership, legal institutions and security, and labour and training.

At a workshop on April 19, Deputy Director ofthe provincial Department of Planning and Investment Pham Thanh Nhon said AnGiang aims to raise its PCI score to 65 to become one of the 15 leadinglocalities in 2019. It also hopes to be in the top 10 in terms of sevensub-indexes.
Acting Chairman of the An Giang People’sCommittee Nguyen Thanh Binh said the tasks for 2019 and beyond are heavy,requiring determination and strong actions of authorities to achieve the PCItarget.
He said the provincial administration willdirect authorities and sectors to address business obstacles. The agencies incharge of the declined sub-indexes have to work out solutions to improve thosefields, while administrative procedures must continue to be reformed to helpbusinesses.
The province will boost the transparency ofinformation relating to state policies, land planning and administrativeprocedures. Authorities will also hold regular meetings with businesses toreceive their feedback to make improvements, he added.-VNA
