Member economies from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will continue to focus their efforts on ensuring food safety and strengthening the exchange of relevant information.

Participants at a meeting of APEC’s Food Safety Cooperation Forum (FSCF) which opened on July 30 in Singapore, as part of a special meeting of APEC senior officials, reaffirmed they will work together to build a sound food safety system and share information on the issue in the region.

They will also accelerate efforts to synchronize regional food standards with international standard so as to improve the community’s health and create favourable conditions for trade activities.

The establishment of a food safety system will include improving the monitoring of food safety and analysing risks such as bacteria and chemicals in foods and foodstuffs, as well as issuing laws on food issues.

Since its establishment in 2007, FSCF has attracted more than 440 people from 19 APEC member economies who have joined 24 programmes to build various food safety systems in five cities in the region./.
