APPF-26 organising committee asks for speedier preparations

The head of the organising committee of the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) urged agencies concerned to speed up their preparations for the event.

Hanoi(VNA) – The head of the organising committee of the 26th AnnualMeeting of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) urged agenciesconcerned to speed up their preparations for the event as it will take place inHanoi in January, 2018.

Vice Chairwoman ofthe National Assembly Tong Thi Phong, who headed the organising committee,chaired the third meeting on December 15 to look into the preparations of theAPPF-26.

Officials from allsubcommittees in Content, Information and Communications, Reception andLogistics, and Health and Security alongside APPF-26 and APEC 2017 secretariatsprovided updates of their efforts.

Phong said theAPPF-26 takes place following the success of the APEC Leaders’ Week 2017 in DaNang and it will be an event for lawmakers across the Asia-Pacific to show supportfor the Da Nang Declaration.

She urged thesubcommittees to place as much focus as they can on preparing for the APPF-26, particularlycommunication and promotion campaigns for the meeting to boost the country’simages.

Phong asked them topromptly review and get final works done as well as ensure security for thesuccessful hosting of the event.

The APPF was founded by former Japanese Prime MinisterYasuhiro Nakasone on March 15, 1993. Bringing together parliamentarians fromacross the Asia-Pacific region, the forum aims to directly assist the APEC,contributing to peace, stability and prosperity in the region. 

The APPF is a mechanism that enablesparliamentarians to discuss issues of common concern, and to deepen theirunderstanding of the region and the interests and experience of its diversemembers. The forum’s proceedings address political, security, economic, social andcultural issues, thus furthering regional cooperation and building relationsbetween and among parliamentarians from the Asia-Pacific region.

The 26th edition of the APPF returns to Hanoi fromJanuary 18-20, 2018 under the theme “Parliamentary partnership: Peace,Innovation and Sustainable Development”.-VNA
