Melbourne’s 2010 Young Artist Grants Programme for Vietnamese artists.
The 10 artists to get grants under the programme are Hoang Cong Minh, Nguyen Thi Bao Ngoc, Tran Minh Duc, Tran Thi Thuy Trang, Pham Huy Hoang, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Dinh Hien, Ngo Thi Thuy Duyen, and Hoang Anh.
They each received 500 AUD (457 USD) at the opening ceremony of an exhibition of their art works in HCM city on March 4 and get an opportunity to have their works exhibited in the Australian city.
The Young Artist Grants Programme is an initiative by Melbourne and the consulate aimed at supporting young emerging visual artists living and working in HCM City.
Melbourne City Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said: “This project is one of a kind for local governments in Australia and Melbourne is proud to support this project.”
The jury said the standard of entries was particularly high and they were impressed with both the talent demonstrated by the artists and their efforts in preparing the applications.
Consul General Graeme Swift said: “Programmes such as this are extremely valuable, the grants capture the most creative and ambitious work by emerging artists and develop strong cultural links between Australia and Vietnam.”
The exhibition will be open to the public at the Out-2 Design Studio, 6 Thai Van Lung./.
