During three-days of sitting, over 1,000 delegates from regional massorganisations focused on discussing ethnic minorities, gender anddevelopment, women’s rights, vulnerable labour groups, the disabled,peace and security, information technology and press, HIV/AIDS, maternaland children healthcare, environment, natural resources and climatechange, democracy and human rights, livelihood and food security, theState relations and social organisations.
Therecommendations drawn from the event will be put on the table at theASEAN Summit, to be held in Phnom Penh in early April.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister SokAn said as ASEAN Chair, Cambodia will create a mechanism for massorganisations to meet ASEAN leaders and acquire the forum’srecommendations this year.
Initiated in 2005, theevent is held on the sidelines of ASEAN Summits with regional massorganisations and non-governmental organisations taking part.-VNA
