Photo exhibition marks 50 years of ASEAN–New Zealand dialogue partnership

A photo exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN–New Zealand Dialogue Partnership officially opened on May 8 at the ASEAN Secretariat headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Jakarta (VNA) – A photo exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN–New Zealand Dialogue Partnership officially opened on May 8 at the ASEAN Secretariat headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Vivid images are on display, reflecting the development journey of the relationship since its establishment in 1975 as well as the depth of the sides’ cooperation across the four central pillars of peace, prosperity, people, and planet.

In her opening remarks, New Zealand Ambassador to ASEAN Joanna Anderson stressed that the exhibition serves as a tribute to the long-standing friendship and the proud achievements jointly cultivated by both sides. She stated that while the event provides an opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments, it also reaffirms the shared commitment of ASEAN and New Zealand to elevate their partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership this year.

ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn praised New Zealand as a reliable partner that has actively contributed to ASEAN Community building and to strengthening the bloc’ centrality in the region.

Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN, affirmed that bloc member states are ready to embark on a new chapter with New Zealand and look forward to advancing this legacy partnership this year.

She noted that ASEAN’s current country coordinator for relations with New Zealand, Vietnam is working closely to facilitate discussions between the sides on a comprehensive strategic partnership proposed by New Zealand.

Vietnam is also actively preparing for the 50th anniversary celebrations, and promoting the adoption of the ASEAN–New Zealand joint vision statement and plan of action for 2026-2030.

The exhibition will remain open at the main lobby of the ASEAN Secretariat until May 16./.
