Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir on January 10 attended a send-off ceremony for 290 athletes who will compete in the 13th ASEAN Para Games, scheduled to take place in Thailand from January 15 to 26.

With its athletes competing in 18 sports, Indonesia is targeting 82 gold medals and a third-place finish in the overall standings.

Thohir stressed that Indonesian para-athletes carry not only the goal of winning medals but also the responsibility of representing the nation abroad. Their perseverance reflects Indonesia’s character, spirit, and dignity on the international stage, he said.

The Minister confirmed that the Indonesian Government will continue to provide performance bonuses, as in previous international competitions. Athletes who win gold medals will receive 1 billion IDR (59,000 USD) per athlete.

In addition, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has introduced a financial literacy programme to help athletes manage their bonuses and income responsibly./.

Deputy Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister of Thailand Thammanat Prompao said that the ministry is prioritising a “market-led, innovation-supported, higher income” strategy, built on three key pillars: strengthening confidence in core, established markets to protect Thailand’s market share; targeting high-potential products to open new opportunities, including dried seahorses, dried geckos, live crocodiles for consumption, and breeding crocodile parent stock for farming; and expanding networks by deepening cooperation with key trading partners, including China, and widening sales channels, such as digital platforms, so Thai products can reach consumers more directly.
